Tributum Newsletter #53

Hello

For an accountant my counting was not that good, and this is actually Newsletter #53, not last month’s. I think. Depends on what you want the answer to be I guess…But regardless the number I’m sticking with the message of progress from last month.

As many of you know I am not really a social media user. I’m only active (relatively) on LinkedIn and on that platform it’s interesting to see the progress in the careers and personal directions of some of my network. From the little I can see it is clear that the progress they made required some effort on the part of the individual. Progress was not just received, it was earned.

What do I mean by that? That personal and professional progression from employee to manager, manager to owner/director etc. required some change on the part of the individual. Whether it was a change in attitude, job, direction or just a change in skill – it required the individual to make the move. And that applies to all aspects of life. It has been said that it is not only the strongest of the species that survives, but also those that are most adaptable to change. And those that are most successful are the ones that navigate that change well. So, what better way to ensure successful navigation than being the captain of your own ship, to be the one plotting the course and driving the progress even when the seas are rough.

So, to the words of the famous “Think Different” ad campaign of Apple from 1997: “Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently…. because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

Maybe you want to change the world, or maybe you just want to change something small. Either way, its up to you. But then you not only need to think different, but you also need to DO different. If you are content and don’t want things to change, then great. If you want things to change, then DO. But if you want change, you cannot whinge if you are not willing to DO something about it. Then the best you can hope for is to have some cheese with that whine…

So, for those of you who are content, stay happy. To those that have already DONE different, great. For those of you that only THINK different – the first DO is just a step away. Until next time, keep breathing.
